I like

March 30, 2010

‘I like’ is another serie, from the photographer Marcel van der Vlugt, that I thought is really interesting. He gives his models a second skin of salmon, cheese, jam or something else. The images you see gives a bit of estrangement. But..

in contrast to estrangement, I think he gives a representation of reality. Because does not everyone has a second skin? Like a mask? Do you always feel happy, or do you hide behind that smile a big sorrow? And where does that hiding comes from? Why do we show our second skin? The real me lurks behind a created body through media, society, norms and rules. Where is the world of today going to? Can anyone be themselves? Or are we always driving by norms and ideals?
