Dolls

March 30, 2010

Dolls is a wonderfull film that you have to watch. Three nowadays lovestory’s are combined with classic ‘’bunraku’’ doll play. It’s a tragic film because success is chosen over individual happiness.

And that’s what we see in our society, people chose success over individual happiness. And if we think succes can make us happy we’re wrong. We have to search our happiness in ourselves, our inner energy. In the film we see the four seasons in wonderful colours. The young roam couple moves like dolls in stern costumes. The film shows a lot of metaphors, like cherry blossom as symbol for vulnerability, but the maker doesn’t go deep into the symbols he let the visual imagery speak.

It’s a bit dated (2002) but if you didn’t see it do so.
